I don’t often post my own tutorials on I Heart Family Travels, but I figured I would share this one with you. I have a confession to make. This is how I have been traveling with my jewelry the last few years: Yeah, that’s a bunch of jewelry just chilling in a ziplock there. Guilty. So I’ve been shopping around for a travel jewelry organizer and coming up empty. I’ve found a few that I’ve liked, like the Reed & Barton Naples Zippered Jewelry Case But at 1.5 pounds, I needed to keep looking. I found both the Anti-Tarnish Jewelry Organizer and the Reed & Barton Tri-Fold Jewelry Chests but they were both 1 pounds each. I couldn’t justify the upgrade or sacrificing the space. […]

When I happened across Lucy Blaire’s fantastically colored toiletry cases I couldn’t help but smile. When I read her biography I knew I had to share her with you guys. IHFT: You’ve had a super eclectic past! From a fish oil factory fork lift operator to etsy 1,000+ club, craft writer and Sew It All TV guest…what were the best lessons from the road between the two points in time? LB: Wow that’s tough, I’d have to say the best lesson was learning how to break through my fear and make a change in my life. Things are always scary the first go around and nothing worth having is ever easy. I was scared to death to start a job as a seamstress because I […]
It’s the horror story you never want to experience, but occasionally, you might lose your luggage during your travels. Luckily, there are a few steps you can take if an airline loses your luggage. In most cases, you’ll get your belongings back, but you’ll find yourself without the things you’ve carefully packed for as much as a month. No matter what else you do, stay calm and don’t panic. The moment you realize your luggage is missing, pull over at the next opportunity, such as a rest stop or store. Contact the last location you had the luggage. Explain what you’ve lost and ask if anything has been […]

It doesn’t mean I still don’t want one! Here is a round up from our favorite from around the web!
I wanted to give you all a peek at our Travel Packing Lists today! Instead of having one of those “print and go” universal lists, we go with a more dynamic system. After all, a universal list doesn’t really take into consideration our family’s personal routines and nuances, our children’s age, the seasons we are traveling, our destinations, our itinerary etc. So instead of a static sheet (3 pairs of pants, 2 shirts, etc.), I keep spreadsheets for each trip and plan EXACTLY what is going into the bag (khaki pants, jean . The spreadsheet system: Builds a collection of lists for future reference. I have a lot of packing lists for various destinations and seasons that I update with notes after the trip on what […]
